FASHION: Ankara.

It’s almost incredulous that fashion is one part of Africans, our culture, that has never been envisaged to defunct without defying its original essence. Instead, it has continued to spur on while depicting our fashion grandeur with excellence and with endearing transformations.
Ankara was formerly referred to as ‘Dutch Wax’ from Holland, Mrs. H.I.D Awolowo being among the first to import and sell lace in the 60s; PZ, UAC and Zabadne and Co. were the primary importers of Dutch Wax and later Ankara in the 70s. Ankara has gained firm popularity ever since.
Funny how the Ankara one would’ve wished he/she never had is now making so much waves that we now wish we have so much. The mindset towards it has been enriched as we now embrace it more than ever, even worn by the high and mighty. It has evolved from the likes of Bubas to now trending jackets, bags, skirts…even suits!
